Celine Dion’s husband and manager dies

Celine Dion's husband

Rene Angelil, the husband and former manager of Celine Dion, has died aged 73, the singer has announced.

Angelil, who Dion married in 1994 and with whom she has three children, died at home in Las Vegas from cancer.

Dion took two career breaks to look after Angelil after he was diagnosed with throat cancer, first in 2000.

Angelil was born in Montreal in 1942. After managing groups in Canada, he was approached to manage Dion by her parents when she was aged 12, reports the BBC.

Last year, Dion told USA Today she was preparing for her husband’s death.

“When it hits me, it’s going to hit me,” she told the newspaper in August 2015. “But my biggest job is to tell my husband, we’re fine. I’ll take care of our kids. You’ll watch us from another spot.”

The Montreal Gazette says he mortgaged his house to finance her first album.

She has recorded 25 studio albums, and is the fifth-best-paid recording artist in the world, with a value of some $630m (£437m).

In 1999, her song My Heart Will Go On, from the soundtrack of the film Titanic, won two Grammy awards.

She has been a regular performer at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas since 2003.

She returned to performing last year after a year-long hiatus to look after Angelil. He stepped down as her manager in 2014.

CAN regular exercises boost sex life and general well being in both sexes?

Over the past few years, several unrelated scientific studies have confirmed that there is a connection between regular physical activity and sex. According to Dr. Tina Penhollow from the University of Florida, United States (U.S.) who was actively involved in one such study – physical activity acts as a powerful aphrodisiac in most women.

Also, Chief Medical Officer of BodyLogicMD, U.S., the largest franchise of physicians specializing in bioidentical hormone therapy, By Dr. Jennifer Landa, has explained how exercise boosts sex life.

Landa who spent 10 years as a traditional Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB-GYN), and then became board-certified in regenerative medicine, with an emphasis on bio-identical hormones, preventative medicine and nutrition noted: “Finding the motivation to exercise has eluded the masses for years. Only a small fraction of the population is privy to the experience known as “runner’s high,” and even fewer actually enjoy the ‘pain’ that comes with pushing your body to its limits. But if exercise means having a better sex life, including increased stamina and better orgasms – would you be more inclined to sweat it out?”

Landa, who is the author of “The Sex Drive Solution for Women” noted: “There is a proven direct link between sex and exercise. When you exercise, the brain produces endorphins that stimulate the release of sex hormones. These hormones reduce your heart rate, improve digestion, lower blood pressure and cortisol levels and relax the body. Oh, and you also might just feel primed and ready for a little one-on-one time in the bedroom.”

According to Penhollow, the following is a list of things that came as a direct result of regular exercise and how they changed the sex life of women. Physical activity accelerates excitement and arousal

A scientific study has shown that women who are practicing physical activity on a regular basis can get excited much faster than those who are passive. Furthermore, they are able to achieve orgasm more frequently and they experience it in a more intensive way. There is actually a simple explanation for this occurrence – cardio exercises improve blood flow, including circulation in the genital area thus enhance strong erection. As we all know improved circulation is one of the key elements of strong orgasm. Without proper circulation women often experience dryness in this area and lack of ability to feel excited.
Physical activity improves focus

Many modern women are suffering from lack of concentration when it comes to sex. For example, they are in bed, they feel loved and in the mood for sex, but their thoughts slowly start to drift away. They think about their job, their exams or some other everyday activities. Regular physical activity can help women synch their body and mind, so that they can completely shut down all other thoughts when they are having sex. This allows them to experience this activity on a whole different level, which is much more interesting and exciting.

Increases sexual endurance

According to some studies, orgasm in women can sometimes last for up to 12 minutes or even longer. If you get tired and exhausted early, you are missing the best part of making love. The only way to increase endurance and have marathon sex session without any restrictions and limitations is to start exercising.

Exercise brings benefits for the libido

During strength training, the body is overwhelmed by hormone growth and testosterone, which are crucial for increasing muscle mass and libido too. Physical activity boosts the mood

Even a small amount of drop in mood can have negative impact on our sexual desire. Exercise makes us feel better because the body is filled with endorphins and sex starts to sound like an excellent idea!

Meanwhile, Landa noted: Sexual benefits of fitness

Cardio: Cardiovascular exercise, such as running, rollerblading or even a pick-up game of basketball can rev up beta-endorphins, which will cause your heart to race and your blood to flow to all the right places. Engage in these activities with your partner, and you will find your desire almost doubles.

Strength: The cure for a low libido is lurking amid all the steel and iron at your local gym too. Strength training increases levels of growth hormone, which contributes to spikes in testosterone – the hormone of arousal. Including strength training into your routine two or three times per week, along with adequate sleep, has been shown to improve sexual arousal.

Yoga: The roots of yoga date back centuries, when the practice was used to stimulate a sexual awakening (also known as tantra.). Focusing your mind and tuning into your senses in a yoga class can work wonders for your sex life – not to mention, improve flexibility for trying new positions with your partner.

In general, engaging in physical activity improves self-esteem and immunity, helps you manage a healthy weight, and increases stamina and energy – all the ingredients for a healthy libido.
Battle of the sexes

A 2008 study conducted at Florida Atlantic University, U.S., found that men and women who exercised frequently were more likely to rate themselves higher in regards to sexual performance and sexual desirability. However, these researchers found that the improvements in sexual health varied between the two sexes. Physical activity was shown to prime a woman’s body for sexual activity by making her more sensitive to touch and increasing the efficacy of stimuli, while men experience improved sexual function and better orgasms.

Mum had 4 sets of twins, son has triplets after 3 kids

“WHEN I was asked to buy three shawls for the babies, with only N2000 in my pocket, it dawned on me that I would be paying in triples, for many years from now.”

That was the submission of Mr Isa Idowu Ganiyu, a father of triplets, at the Adeoyo Specialist Hospital, Ibadan, whose wife put to bed three boys on the 30th of December, 2015 through caesarean operation.

For Mr Ganiyu, who already has two boys and a girl, the journey started about eight months ago, when his ill wife was pronounced pregnant based on an ultrasonography scan.

Recounting his experience, Mr Ganiyu, whose mother also had four sets of twins, did not make him think that his wife, too, might end up having twins or triplets.

According to him, although they had initial delay of four years before having their first child, “even when the scan said she was carrying triplets, I still found it hard to believe.”

With three children already, the news of triplets worried the couple, and with time, the effect began to take its tow on Mrs Guvat Ganiyu’s health.

Aside the frequent visits to the hospital, twice she fainted and had to be resuscitated. She also was placed on hospital bed rest at the fifth month of pregnancy till the babies were eventually delivered through caesarean operation.

Although he accepted his fate, believing God for help, according to the father of the children, there were many challenges, especially as caring for his wife became a necessity, which resulted in less time for trade.

For Mrs Guvat Ganiyu, her experience carrying the triplets was significantly different from her previous ones.

“I did not know I was pregnant for almost four months because I was still seeing my period. I got to know when I fell ill and tests at Adeoyo Specialist Hospital indicated that I was pregnant,” she stated.

Although it was initially said to be two babies and later three, she said: “maybe I would not have been worried if it was my first pregnancy. If it was when we were newly married and there was money, it would have been easier. But now, thinking of how to care for them in this trying period brings me so much pain.”

The 35-year-old petty trader, whose business had been grounded because she is always weak and unable to do much due to the pregnancy, added that “when the money we had for the caesarean operation was not enough, people, including health workers, came around to assist us to pay.”

However, the birth of the triplets only reminded her of dreams of having many children before she got married.

Watching one of the babies, Mohammed, lying in a baby’s crib, Mrs Ganiyu said he is fed with breast milk as the others named Addulraman and Al-rahim. They are still in the hospital’s special baby care unit because they were born small.  They weighed 2,2kg, 1.7kg and 1.8kg respectively.

Surprising, Mrs Ganiyu, had all her previous babies at this hospital. And she was full of praise and thanks to the staffs of the hospital, who she described as very supportive.

“Many times, people talk about their experiences at the hospital, when sick or requiring one form of treatment or the other. They talk about the waiting time; they always forget about the number of patients waiting to be attended to. But, one thing is certain, if you are patient, you will be attended to and you are sure of the quality of service.”

Ganiyu’s triplets still need more support to ensure they attain their potentials in life. Already, wife of Oyo State Governor, Chief Mrs Florence Ajimobi, represented by Mrs Folusho Sali, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, on a courtesy visit to the hospital made some donations of baby formula to them as well as some other patients in the hospital on 1st January, 2016.

But Mr Ganiyu said more still needed to be done to support these babies through life.

Permanent Secretary, Oyo State Hospital Management Board, Ministry of health, Dr Adebayo Adigun, remarking that cases of multiple deliveries were frequently recorded in many Oyo State health facilities, said this case just further proved that the notion that state hospital facilities were not working were untrue.

“Oyo State government hospital facilities are working. They are doing their best to render healthcare services to our people. These facilities are available to our people and, as such, we have large number of people coming down to benefit from our various facilities,” Adigun stated, just as he assured that health was topmost on the agenda of Governor Abiola Ajimobi, and declared that bed occupancy rate in most government hospitals in urban centres was almost 100 per cent.

Adigun, noting that “the records are there if you want to know,” however, urged erring health workers be reported to ensure the system continues to provide good services to patients.

He also encouraged individuals to patronise the Oyo State health insurance scheme, saying it was aimed at ensuring people also benefit from the health dividends from the government

Oral-B restates commitment to Oral Health for all Nigerians in 2016 & beyond

The household oral care  brand from Procter & Gamble, Oral-B has restated its commitment in helping Nigerians have stronger teeth and improved overall oral health in 2016 and beyond. The brand which has a strong bond with dental associations in the recent years  made this known during the post -Health Week Executive debrief session in Lagos and the National Oral Health Week 2015 held in Abuja.

At the National Oral Health Week organized by the Federal Ministry of Health, held in Abuja, The Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Enahire had also made a similar appeal to Nigerians to see their “oral health as closely integrated with their general health system as the mouth is the gate way to the body and several oral diseases are related to non-communicable diseases such as diabetes mellitus and hypertension.”

Speaking at the   Executive editorial debrief session following the 2015 National Oral Health Week, the Brand Manager of Oral B for Sub-Saharan Africa,   Aliza Leferink,  pointed out that "healthy teeth and gums are fundamental to overall health and well-being. And we want Nigerians going into 2016 and beyond with stronger teeth, which comes from forming a great daily care habit, consistency and the right toothpaste use."

“Maintaining healthy teeth can be achieved by following a number of simple principles, and Oral-B wants to help Nigerian consumers on their way to better oral-care-routines.” Aliza advised that firstly, one should brush twice a day and floss daily. Most people find it difficult to brush at night. But this is one of the most effective ways of preventing germs, gum disease and tooth decay in the long term. Brushing at least twice a day will help to prevent acid build up from the breakdown of food by bacteria.

To brush the  teeth correctly, one should spend at least two minutes using a recommended technique, which includes 30 seconds brushing each section of your mouth (upper right, upper left, lower right and lower left), both morning and night. Start with outer and inner surfaces, and brush at a 45-degree angle in short, half-tooth-wide strokes against the gum line. Make sure you reach your back teeth. Move on to chewing surfaces. Hold the brush flat and brush back and forth along these surfaces. Once you get to the inside surfaces of your front teeth, tilt the brush vertically and use gentle up-and-down strokes with the tip of brush. Finally, brush your tongue in a back-to-front sweeping motion to remove food particles and help remove odor-causing bacteria to freshen your breath”.

Oral-B also demonstrated that the hygiene and condition of the tooth-brush itself is very important for a healthy mouth. Tooth brushes should be changed 3 to 4 times a year. If the toothbrush bristles become frayed and worn, they may lose their effectiveness, and when ineffective, it is not able to get into all of the nooks and crannies of your mouth and clean your teeth and gums as a new toothbrush does. Some studies have shown the typical toothbrush can harbor up to 10 million bacteria, so a good and frequently exchanged toothbrush will help keep your teeth clean and healthy.

Good diet and low sugar intake is another habit that needs to be cultivated. It is advisable to visit the dentist for regular check-ups, preferably every six months to ensure gum and teeth do stay healthy. Most people go to the dentist only when they are in pain. They should go for both prevention and cure!

“We are driving positive habit change and promoting the culture of brushing twice daily, day and night, which is a global best practice to healthy oral-care living. Oral-B helps to protect against cavities, stains and bad breath and these are the most prevalent oral care needs in many homes. When one has clean teeth and healthy gums, there are fewer bad bacteria to enter your bloodstream and travel to other parts of your body”, she elucidated.

The Oral-B toothpaste combines three powerful ingredients, stannous chloride, sodium fluoride and a specific Polychelation Technology which address the seven areas dentist check most to help people achieve healthy, beautiful teeth. Through its new advanced toothpaste formulation Oral-B tooth paste creates a protective shield around the teeth and gums. During brushing the paste distributes key ingredients throughout the mouth.

Oral-B brand is a worldwide leader in Oral Care. Oral-B continuously strives to work closely with the dental professionals to deliver high quality products. Oral-B Toothpaste was developed by dentists and helps to protect the 8 most common oral health problems at the same time: Tooth holes, bad breath, gum problems, tooth sensitivity, stains, bacteria deposits, tartar, and enamel erosion.
